Patient Safety Fellowship

Applications for the 2025 fellowship are now open.

Are you interested in strategies to engage patients in order to improve health care? We invite you to apply for the Patient Safety Fellowship hosted by the Jewish Healthcare Foundation. The fellowship will explore the intersection of patient communication, technology, and safety engineering to help drive safety improvements in health care.

In today’s complex healthcare landscape, effective communication is critical to provide safe, high-quality care. Fellows from interdisciplinary backgrounds will work together to gain insight into communication gaps, analyzing safety risks, and developing solutions that lead to safer patient-centered experiences. The fellowship will offer an opportunity to learn from experts in the fields of healthcare safety, communication, technology, and more. Fellows will form teams tasked with analyzing a specific care setting (maternal care, aging and long-term care, childhood vaccinations, behavioral health, HIV/AIDS) and developing a toolkit/solution aimed at improving patient-provider communication regarding safety issues.

Dates & Times

Tuesdays from 4:30-7:00pm ET
June: 10, 17, 25 July: 1*, 8, 15, 22, 29

*Dinner is provided at all sessions except during site visits on July 1.

Location

In-Person at 625 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 and site visits around the Pittsburgh area.

Who Should Apply

Graduate students (including AI, medicine, pharmacy, communications, health policy, administration, social work, etc), undergraduate students in health professions, and young professionals who are interested in safety, healthcare innovation, and digital transformation.
