Supporting and strengthening the healthcare workforce

Training and Coaching to Empower Workers

JHF believes that a talented, qualified, engaged, and diverse workforce is a core component of a thriving healthcare system. However, American hospitals and health systems face critical staffing shortages that jeopardize access to care in the communities they serve. While these shortages existed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has only gotten worse in the years since. It is estimated that America will face a shortage of up to 124,000 physicians by 2033 and will need to hire at least 200,000 nurses per year to meet increased demand. There also are critical shortages of allied health and behavioral health professionals, especially in historically marginalized communities. These workforce shortages contribute to the need for supportive policies and programs so that America’s healthcare workforce can be adequately prepared for the delivery system of the future.

To this end, JHF trains, coaches, and connects professionals at all career levels to create a safer, higher-performing health system. Through a variety of learning networks and programs, JHF strives to educate, convene, and mobilize stakeholders to meet the changing needs of communities — from adolescents to those at the end of life.
