Women’s health has been at the heart of programming and advocacy at the Jewish Healthcare Foundation since it was established. Through effective grantmaking and programming, the Foundation has focused spotlights on the need to detect and prevent breast cancer (The Breast Test), improve women’s heart health (Working Hearts®), and prevent cancer through HPV vaccination.
Women have unique health needs — for example, pregnancy, childbirth, as they age, and menopause. And some health issues that affect both men and women pose special health challenges for women. The World Health Organization says concrete action is needed to create and sustain an ambitious plan of action for gender equality, health equity, and general empowerment of women and girls.
JHF actively works to support programming and staff maternal and child health-focused pilot projects for its women’s health-focused network. It creates networks of advocates and experts in women’s health and wellness who work to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes, equity, leadership, and reproductive health access, all the while elevating the role of women as caregivers in the workforce and in their homes.
