JHF Sponsored Series in Pittsburgh Business Times Highlights Pittsburgh’s Safety Leadership

Pittsburgh Business Times released the first story in the sponsored series “Think Pittsburgh, Think Safety” highlighting the work of JHF, PRHI, Pittsburgh Technology Council, and the Regional Autonomous Patient Safety initiative to plant a flag in Pittsburgh as a patient safety innovation hub.

The first story chronicles Pittsburgh’s legacy in industrial safety. The centerpiece of the story is the historical expertise of Jan Wachter, former professor at Indiana University and adjunct professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. For more than 30 years, Wachter has worked in the government, private and academic sectors primarily in environmental health and safety.

Wachter highlights the history and advent of industrial safety standards and how since the early 20th century Pittsburgh has forged its legacy of industrial and occupational safety in education, manufacturing, research and development, leadership and unionization and continued to that commitment to the present day.
