Type: News
Focus Area: Teen Mental Health

Advocacy Series member Vanesa Aguay discusses the importance of teen mental health resources during Advocacy Day in Harrisburg in 2023.
The 2025 PA Youth Advocacy Series has officially launched, uniting 23 young leaders from 11 Pennsylvania counties to build the skills and confidence needed to create meaningful change in their communities. Now in its fifth year, the program provides students with hands-on training in advocacy, including research, public speaking, and navigating the legislative process.
During eight interactive sessions, participants will engage in workshops, mentorship opportunities, and a teen-led panel discussion. Student groups will develop advocacy materials on issues such as safe and inclusive youth spaces, mental health education, and peer support. These documents will be presented to state legislators during a Harrisburg advocacy day in March, giving participants real-world experience in advocacy.
“Mental health is really important to me because it not only affects me but also the people I love most. I want to help have more programs and be a part of making change,” said Alexandra Mumbauer, an 11th grader from Salisbury Senior High School in Lehigh County.
Beyond the program, the initiative fosters peer support networks and long-term advocacy efforts, ensuring that these young voices continue to influence policy well beyond the series. By equipping the next generation with the tools to drive social change, the Youth Advocacy Series is shaping Pennsylvania’s future leaders who can are welcome to remain involved in the PA Youth Advocacy Network by joining other advocates and partner organizations who are interested in creating change.
